Diagnosis of Pain

The Pain Centers recognize that each case is different. Our physicians diagnose and treat pain by doing the following:
- Discuss the patient's medical history.
- Conduct a thorough physical examination.
- Review MRI scans and other diagnostic tests.
- Determine a precise diagnosis.
- Develop a strategy for treating or improving the patient's pain.
Precisely performed diagnostic interventions (special x-ray guided tests) are critical in the process of identifying the source of pain. MISS physicians understand the indications for and how to interpret these tests to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. Examples of these tests include:
- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar selective nerve root sleeve injections
- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar sympathetic ganglion injections
- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar zygapophyseal (facet) joint injection
- Sacroiliac(SIJ) joint injections
- Sphenopalatine ganglion injection, celiac plexus, hypogastric plexus blocks
- Cervicothoracic, thoracic and lumbar provocative discography
